There were boot options that would have been worse for the season but a better ending to to the episode in a vacuum, specifically either Kellee or Jamal getting ousted by their own idol. Instead a UTR/MOR-lite dude went out with little fanfare and it hurt the episode (even if it was better for the season). Peridiam posted... The barrage was understandable imo.
