Finally finished watching the debate -- which, because I missed the initial broadcast, I wound up breaking up -- and, out of everybody there, Tulsi Gabbard came out looking pretty good. I was also surprised that Klobuchar had a pretty solid performance.

Elizabeth Warren got beaten and bloodied a few times. Bernie had some blunders and it was particularly glaring when he pivoted on a question (I think concerning his health) to jump back to the last discussion where he added absolutely nothing and seemed to just be running down the clock on his actual question.

Cory Booker has continued to disappoint. Every other response seemed to be a, "Let's get along, guys!", instead of actually using his time well. I think he's probably done at this point, which is fine if that's all he has. Mayor Pete had a few good moments whereas Beto, the previously media-anointed one, seemed to embarrass himself a few times and got floored by Pete on that gun control debate.

Speaking of embarrassments, Biden flubbed more than usual and had that great moment when he was talking about Putin and motioning towards Bernie. That shit made the night. However, despite his mistakes, he still demonstrated why he was the front-runner, especially when he was putting Elizabeth Warren in her place (and it was funny watching her try to offer credit to everybody *around* Biden for her success before acknowledging that Biden's remark was on the money)

A few of the candidates talked about increasing the taxes on capital gains -- using it to slight the wealthy -- while overlooking that it would impact anybody trying to save for retirement and punish most Americans for behaving responsibility.

In general, though, the fact that there are 12 candidates on the stage kinda distracts from the fact that only a handful will actually be in contention and those are the ones who matter. Granted, you don't *actually* need to hear from Bernie because all of his responses are along the lines of "Subject-verb-Wall Street" and, regardless of the discussion, he stays in the same arena because he's in trouble whenever he goes anywhere else. While Elizabeth Warren is also big on the "eat the rich" spiel, at least she has a bit more variety so less of it sounds the same. Plus she was willing to call out bad trade deals and companies taking jobs overseas instead of Andrew Yang just writing those jobs off.

To her credit, Tulsi Gabbard called out the US's tendency towards endless wars and how badly our involvement has exacerbated the Syrian civil war and prolonged a crisis. A handful of the other candidates defended it poorly, although Mayor Pete's nonsense sticks out the most.

His interns are standing behind him, propping him up. You can see one of them when they lift his arm to wave.
