My parents smoked, so I grew up finding it absolutely disgusting. I've smoked a couple times (a cigar once or twice, a pipe once), but I never got anything out of it. To this day I still find the smell of cigarettes repulsive, and I tend to dislike people who smoke by proxy. That disdain also sort of extends to people who vape.

I experimented with a couple different types of drugs in college, but nothing ever really did much for me. Especially since by that point, I was already drinking, and alcohol was far more convenient and more effective (in the ways I wanted it to be) than anything else. Weed being illegal was just the cap on it - I never really felt the need to try and go out of my way to get it because it didn't appeal to me all that much in the first place. Especially since a lot of the problem I have with cigarettes apply to weed as well (with the added negative that stoners tend to stink far worse than tobacco smokers). It also didn't help that most actual stoners I knew were complete idiots.

I've been drinking alcohol for decades, though. I tend to be a happy, energetic drunk, so I've never had a problem with it. I've never once had blackouts or the sort of memory loss people always associate with getting drunk, so that's a plus as well. And for most of my life, I could pretty much drink until passing out and still never have a hangover the next day (I'm starting to feel it more now as I get older). Most of my friends drank as well (and were equally cool about it), so it added to social situations. Now that I'm older I don't really drink as much (maybe once a month or so, always in social situations - I almost never drink alone, and never really have). I'm really fussy about what sort of alcohol I drink though - I generally hate beer, and mostly stick to bourbon or whiskey in general).

To be perfectly honest, my drug of choice is basically caffeine. As per the caffeine topic the other day, I probably drink about 300-350mg of caffeine every day. I "need" it to wake up in the morning, and I absolutely show addiction behavior when I run out (planning inconvenient store trips if I run out, getting sluggish and irritable if I'm forced to go too long without, etc).
