I would still make the case that, as an obstacle to his freedom, it doesn't present him as anything more than a standard criminal. It's also a lot more understated than his other kills. Killing someone who was completely innocent, and completely removed from his situation, I think is what I was looking for. The same way Frankenstein's creature ~~targeted the doctor's fiancee and family.
