Think about it, we put him in crippling pain for the rest of his life, totally fuck up every joint he has, force him to do manual labor 14 hours a day, and then we make the death penalty illegal.

People like him is why we need to keep the death penalty legal, life in prison is too good for mass shooters.
Most of them expect to be killed anyway, the death penalty is no deterant.
What we need is torture, prolonged torture, that is TELEVISED so anyone thinking of doing this can see what they have in store for them. Even then, they could just shoot themselves etc and escape punishment so I don't know if it would stop.
Just sad that people want to do this at all in the first place.
We have laws against cruel and unusual punishment, the best course of justice is a lethal injection which isn't painless.
Laws can be changed, but....I do pretty much agree with avoiding as much suffering as possible. The only way you could ever convince me to do something like torture people is if it was enough of a deterant to prevent a bunch of other people suffering, so over all it was less suffering.
But yeah, I guess we really shouldn't torture people sigh. But there is really no solution to this then. ---
