Have fun I'll be dead of a heart attack in five years anyway." I very much get the feeling that they didn't end the show exactly the way he was planning to end the books anyway. They dropped way too many storylines and subplots for the show, which may have straight up made his intended ending entirely untenable. And a lot of the time the last few seasons of the show seemed to be giving into fan-pandering, which left them in an even more awkward place to try to force everything back into the original pattern.
