I used to feel the same, and there is some catharsis to it, but the depressing reality is that mental illness and crippling poverty are often a factor to situations like this.


It's a sad situation, but I definitely wouldn't want to reason with an armed person with possible mental illness, as you described. Better safe than sorry, particularly in these cases. No innocent life in that building going about their work day should be subjected to even the tiniest of chances that they wind up dead because of someone like the perpetrator.


That's different than what you were saying in the first place. There is a huge difference between accepting something as a sad inevitability and saying that something was how it should be.


Not really. We know nothing about the bank robber in this case. Even if it came out how hard his life was, what led him up to this point to walk in brandishing a weapon, etc. it still doesn't justify his behavior or what should be done to defend the innocent in this particular scenario.
