It only became at all normal for women to shave because Gillette and a number of other companies had a whole bunch of razors it couldn't offload because all the men were off fighting in the war, so they started a propaganda campaign to get women shaving. That's a relatively recent social norm. If true, those men at Gillette did our country a service and we salute them! However, other parts of the world already had shaving or equivalents so that story seems unlikely. Given that hair has likely always been a concern for women, I'd assume that the practice picked up whenever they started to show more skin. Bok_Choi posted...
