Engage police in meaningful dialogues about biases, work with them (community de-escalation programs, etc.) to reduce violent crime, vote/campaign for municipal politicians that plan to employ larger-scale programs to make such things happen, and for state/federal politicians that will end the for-profit prison system and war on drugs... Really, the fact that "I can't shoot them if they do something I don't like!" is your first thought here is pretty alarming. There are ample avenues for peacefully effecting change.
