You don't become a Christian by "trying to do well" or "following all the rules of the Bible." And seeking approval and advice from the world is a bad place to start. I am actually saved. The reason why I put emphasis on following the rules was to make it clear that I have fallen short as well. I didn't want to make it seem like just because I've never fornicated, got drunk, or done drugs, that I don't need God's grace and forgiveness. I know full well that one doesn't become a Christian by trying to keep the commandments. Such a person will fail every time. It is not through works that we are saved.
