A $2000 computer that's updated every five years is going to offer performance that would definitely qualify as high-end, given how slowly games are advancing (due in part to console cycles), and spending $400-500 per year (depending on the number of games purchased and how many sales were taken advantage of) on entertainment is not inconceivable even in a lower income bracket, if that's all you spend. Spending $3-4000 a year on top-of-the-line parts, however, is much less affordable. Basically, it's the difference between "high-end" in terms of practical application and "high-end" in terms of e-peen stroking. The former is surprisingly affordable.
