I don't think there's a more famous or recognizable name in horror than Stephen King. With 54 novels under his belt, over 200 short stories, and 92 films and miniseries adapted from his work (with the number set to grow), King has saturated the horror novel market with a presence unlike any other, constantly topping best seller lists and having many acclaimed books and short stories that people hold in high regard. King is well-known for writing lengthy books with an unfiltered lens, with social commentary, everyman protagonists, and adolescent themes often at the forefront of his books. For all the praise he gets, there will always be someone who derides his work. As beloved as the book IT is for example, I've seen many criticisms on both the length and some of the more out-there portions of the book regarding It's origins. I've enjoyed many King books; my personal favorite book of all time is The Stand. He's a very accessible writer and it's easy to get sucked into his books. They create interesting and plausible scenarios amongst even the most creative concepts, due to strong details and multi-faceted characters. He writes across many genres with ease but there's always some trace of horror in his stories. King will continue to scare the nation with every book he publishes, and I have no doubt he'll be remembered as both a great novelist and one of the most influential voices in horror history.
