Not long ago he apologized and gave 10.5 million to Omar Khadr, a convicted terrorist.

The alternative would have been spending millions more fighting the SC's decision (Harper had already spent over $100 million to that end, if memory serves), and probably still ending up awarding Khadr more money, all for the sake of fighting for Canada's right to torture information and confessions out of suspected criminals. Canadian citizens have rights, which the government is not supposed to violate. Omar Khadr is a Canadian citizen, and therefore has the same rights as any one of us. There's a reasonable chance he's also a terrorist scumbag who belongs in prison, but that's quite irrelevant when it comes to his legal rights to not be tortured.

Then why did he (purportedly) say that Evangelical Christians are the worst part of Canadian society?

Because Evangelical Christians are douches. Pretty much everyone that isn't an Evangelical Christian agrees on that, incluyding other Christians.

he's better than harper, but he's still a do-nothing neo-liberal washup in his own right

Sounds about right. I'm glad Harper's gone, but Trudeau isn't doing much aside from periodically making everyone feel good by issuing long-deserved apologies. He also reneged on the electoral reform he ran on, which is really not cool.
