Taking a swing with a bat while moving backwards is even harder, since it needs to be swung with two hands and the whole body to have a chance of doing enough damage to actually break bones, knock out, or kill. Just waving it with one hand isn't going to throw someone fueled on an adrenaline dump off you. And then the bat has a minimum range where it's almost completely ineffective. --- "That is why war is so tragic.
