The original "can't sleep, clown will eat me". In the same league as the Zuni fetish doll from Trilogy of Terror or a Good Guy doll, I question anybody who would ever, ever purchase something that looks as creepy as this damn thing, and then have it sit in a chair and face you while you sleep. No thank you. The Clown Doll is perhaps the most well-known scene from the original Poltergeist, rivaling "They're here" and featured heavily in the marketing push for the remake. Before Pennywise, THIS was the clown that made kids lose sleep at night. With its way-too-happy grin transformed into a devilish smile by the poltergeist, and its long arms perfect for wrapping around a scared little boy's throat, the clown doll is a perfect storm of nightmares for a kid's imagination. The Clown Doll is a classic in a long lineage of living dolls and dummies, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the catalyst for many families to start covering and throwing out their similar dolls lest any mischievous ghost seek to possess it.
