Well here is the kicker fully automatic wouldn't mean much if it was't for high capacity ammo clips.

Not even. Full auto is actually pretty garbage, it's basically just a way to waste vast amounts of ammo. Original M4s were made burst because soldiers in 'nam were burning through ammo like kerosene.

I mean what is the point of firing 90 rounds in seconds if the most your rifle can hold is say 24.

700 rounds/min (more than 10 a second) is pretty standard and magazines are typically 20 or 30 dependant on ammo size.

LMGs, guns actually designed to hold large amounts of ammo and fire continuously on full auto, typically fire sub 600 rounds/minute to keep shots remotely on point and avoid the reinforced barrel from melting. These aren't even used for taking out the enemy, they're heavy and impractical, their purpose is to suppress enemies to limit their ability to return fire or leave their position.

Automatic fire isn't for lethality. When a kill is needed you only need a couple well placed shots and semi automatic gives you everything you need to reliably place those.
