Given that they can change the backstory, they don't necessarily need to bring Venom in first. iirc, one of the ASM games intro'd Carnage without doing Venom, partly because it involved a variation on the Ultimates where the symbiote was being designed to heal a person rather than an existing alien creature. It really depends on who does it.
