Bah, don't listen to them. I would LOVE to have a son or daughter and raise them. I care not one bit if they are my "flesh and blood". I personally would prefer to raise a child who would not have a loving family otherwise, and I would rather not bring another life into this world.

I'm too old though and will not try and raise a child who won't turn 18 before I'm over 60 (I'm not even likely to make it another 10 years with my family history, I've already outlived everyone in my immediate family).

If your young enough, go for it. Just make sure you are finacially secure enough to provide the child a good life, and responsible enough to take the job seriously. Put the child first, and you'll be a good dad.

From personal experience when you are taking care of a young child, you will run into a TON of single mothers who may be very interested in you (even if your old like me). Single dads I guess are attractive or something (no clue). So you might meet someone to raise your kids with eventually anyway. That certainly shouldn't be why you adopt, but it's an added long term bonus.

Anyway there are tons of kids out there that need loving parents. You probably would have a much easier time adopting an older child though, and would help them more (there are usually plenty of people waiting to adopt babies or very young children).
