and the amount of merchandise I did see wasn't inversely related to how smart the person was that wore the shirts or masks (or carried the figurines around). Since the Bay movies, there's been a ton of that crap everywhere, and moreso around people who I swear permeate stupidity to the point of your brains getting sucked in when you stand anywhere near them.

If you're talking children, there's never a real correlation there. If you're talking adults, geeks and nerds are more likely to wear the merch; nerds are obviously smarter than the general population whereas geeks kinda fall within the normal spectrum. That said, I haven't seen that many people wearing Tranformers t-shirts, etc, although I know that the things are being sold.

However, I did see somebody with G1 (ie, original cartoon) Decepticons logo tattoo which was both unusual and kinda neat. Especially unusual because the guy had fairly buff arms and looked something like a biker.

Oh, for a while the bumper stickers really caught on... although the one I bought fell off >_>
