That was based on an interpretation of JBL falling into the more "old school" style and, from JBL's pranks, it does seem like the kind of approach for problem solving. When Cornette points out that JBL would be unlikely to sue, that's certainly possible. When Joey Styles popped JBL, Styles never got fired and JBL supposedly backed down after that. Keep in mind that JBL isn't like Satino Morella.

Of course, in JBL's case he's also missing the point that JBL is pretty much Vince's golden boy, so there's also the distinct feeling of "If I fuck with this guy I'm going to lose my job, and if I lose my job when the WWE is basically the only major wrestling organization in most of the world, I'm basically losing my entire career", which was never really the case when Cornette was active in the business.

Which ties into Cornette's and others' arguments: If you're going to lose the job anyway, does it make a difference how you lose it? And again, when Joey Styles -- another commentary guy -- resorted to self-help, the matter did drop.

And honestly, while VKM likes JBL, he also seems to like the boys settling matters among themselves.
