The Merry Misadventures of Arria on Rokkenjima: an Umineko playthrough

Greetings, people of GameFAQs. I’ve been an avid lurker for a very long time now. I know you guys like Umineko playthroughs, so I’m hoping you’ll enjoy this as well since it’s a different perspective than you’re used to.

First of all, I want to state that spoilers are absolutely allowed and welcome. I (Kira) will be the one posting and replying to everyone. Arria won’t be viewing the topic until she’s done. Which is another thing, we only play when we’re together, and we only see each other every few weeks. So… it may be a very, very long time before we get anywhere. For that reason, I ask that you don’t bump the topic. Let it purge. I’ll save everything I type and relevant discussion in a Google Docs, then link to that in subsequent topics.

I want to give you all a fair warning about us. We’re both women in our late 20s, both in happy relationships with men, and both have strong opinions about, well, lots of things. Arria in particular can be very dirty, especially with sex jokes.

We (well, her more than I) are into cosplay and I once suggested to her that she and I and two of our mutual friends should cosplay as the four mothers. This may be mentioned a few times.

Arria will be going in (fairly) blind. I am rereading it after many years. While the game was installing, I asked Arria what she already knew about the game. I knew she’d watched an episode of the anime way back when, so I thought she’d be going in with some previous knowledge. Things Arria is aware of already: main character is named Battler and he’s a redhead. Since he’s a main character, she thinks she won’t like him. “Something to do with a painting” and that she wants us to cosplay as the mothers. The one I want her to cosplay as is a brunette with a Victorian purple dress. “Something about a witch”. Oh, and Umineko means ‘seagull’. A character in ep 3 that she’ll like because “she knows there’s a butler” (Kira note: Ronove, but I didn’t tell her anything else about him). It’s a mystery “of some sort”. It’s probably just going to “give the finger” to things like physics. A Clue-esque aspect/we’re on the island for a reason/people are going to die. She thinks it will eat her life for the next 5 years because I’ve warned her how long it is. After I reminded her, she remembered that I told her before that any scene without Battler may be symbolic rather than literal.

Yes, I know that last line is probably a bit controversial, but it was an executive decision that I made because I wanted to throw Arria a bone. I also wanted to see what crack-pot theories she’d come up with.
