I don't think I would be that upset with him if he had shot them in the back. These were armed intruders. It turns out they just had a knife and some brass knuckles, but they could have just as easily had a gun. Should he have to risk playing gun slinger? Should he offer them the chance for a duel at 20 paces? Give them one chance to put their hands behind their heads and surrender.
