Right, if the ratios were reversed, Dark Souls would be a casual game, and CoD would be a hardcore game.

"Hardcore" and "Casual" do not refer to quality. At all.

And yes, Call of Duty wasn't always casual-bait. It became a hit, and it became one of those games that, if you're a gamer of any kind: whether it takes up every waking breath of your life, or you just like playing here and there, it's a game you're familiar with.

It doesn't refer to quality of the game. It doesn't refer to ANYTHING about a game. Casual games can be completely different things. CoD is an FPS, Zelda is an adventure game, Mario is a platformer, Madden is a sports game, GTA is a sandbox game. But they're all casual titles.

A mainstream casual gamer is someone who only plays the biggest hits and nothing more. They don't invest they're lives into hearing all the news, or they don't want to spend the money on every game that comes out, they just want to play the big hits and that's it. CoD/Zelda/Mario/etc are all highly popular games, they're the games that every gamer has played. They're the big names, whether gaming is a big hobby of yours, or you're an every-now-and-then gamer, you know these games. And THAT is what makes them the casual status.

That's all. It's nothing to get upset over.
