Adding a 2nd analog nub (which most games moving forward would be likely to utilize) completely locks out current 3DS owners from playing future games.
Not to mention re-naming the thing at this point would only create MORE confusion, not less. They need better marketing, not a complete re-branding.
It would essentially be pulling the plug on the 3DS, which I wouldn't be shocked by. The 3DS ends up being a gimmicky extension of the DS line, which is pretty much what the market is for it anyway. I don't know how else you can really market the thing.
