Like medicine, either prayer will help or it won't

Either aliens made entirely of sentient cheese will materialize in his hospital room and repair his neck with a laser powered by the spirit of friendship that they have harvested from the wagging tails of every dog that has ever gone missing from this planet, or they won't.

To be clear, spirituality does have a non-negligible benefit as part of recovering from medical issues. Being in the right headspace works wonders for recovery, and spirituality (including prayer) can absolutely be a part of that. That does not mean, however, that his spine is going to reassemble itself because he said "please" to the right guy. That's gonna take some medicine.

People are free to make their own medical decisions and if that person believes that prayer will help them, that's their business.

They are free to make that decision. Then we, in turn, are free to mock that decision for being a stupid decision. Given that it is a stupid decision, this seems reasonable.

we as individuals decide what's best for us which is why I am against vaccine mandates.

Fortunately, vaccines are not being mandated. People remain free to avoid the vaccine if they so wish, and that is unlikely to change. That decision has consequences that reach far beyond personal health and put other people at risk, though, so in order to limit those consequences, it is necessary to restrict those that refuse to be vaccinated.
