David Lynch himself thought it was garbage, and was furious when they took his 5 hour epic and diced it up into a 2.5 hour incoherent mess. Did it have some good aspects? Sure, but unless you read the book or have seen the 2000 mini-series I think David Lynch's movie is notoriously hard to follow.
