If anything, we've spent the last decade or so going back the other way - most gimmicks these days are "guy who wrestles", as opposed to supernatural weirdos, murderclowns, Shockmasters, evil midgets, and people who think they're The Crow (okay, so we still have a guy who thinks he's The Crow). Sure, it's goofier than it was in the 50s-70s (though there was still some pretty goofy shit going on then as well), but Jim Cornette continues to be one of the few people who actually believe that pretending the last 50 years didn't happen would somehow magically revitalize the entire industry.
