In practice, I never went deep enough into drawing to ever make it worthwhile to buy a box of crayons dedicated to more accurately matching skin colours, but I'd nonetheless consider having the option to do so to be a positive thing. Zeus posted... Well, besides reinforcing race as being significant, there's the sub-issue where it reinforces in-group racism where even within the groups darker shades are discriminated against. Acknowledging that race exists hardly reinforces it as being significant. No one's truly colorblind: everyone can see racial differences, they just don't matter beyond that simple visual difference (and medical concerns and the occasional other practical issue, but obviously those aren't particularly relevant to crayons). Using a crayon that more closely matches somebody's skin colour isn't reinforcing the significance of race, it's just drawing what you see. --- This is my signature.
