if asteroid mining truly becomes a thing, we really will have to come up with a new economic system from scratch.

Presuming, of course, it doesn't cost so much to access those resources that turning a profit becomes impossible, particularly considering the extreme price crash their mere availability would cause. In some ways, the concept capitalisms itself to death before it even gets off the ground.
