As for the left vs right spectrum, he complained about both sides pretty heavily as it related to libertarianism so it's possible he's centrist. The brunt of his criticisms on social issues tended to fall towards the subject of personal accountability/responsibility, which in theory should be universal (but I guess in practice the notion is disliked by the left).
