Every major change in this country was brought through direct action that forces elected officials to change policies. Labor movement, women's suffrage, civil rights, ending the vietnam war, gay rights, all of them from people being in the streets demanding that shit improve. I feel like the thing many modern organizers miss is how electoral politics and movement politics both work together to influence meaningful and lasting change. Neither element works alone (imo) --- But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. ...
