Kuroi Ita ~ The Black Song (International Version) (7/10) This song is really pretty : ) Drakengard 3 music takes a long time to really...get into itself. It's the kind of music where you can't just admit on your website "I didn't get past the first 30 seconds because i am a non-listener to the music so i'm voting for th other one" because I was like 'wait why am i giving this a high score' until i got like halfway through the track. The payoff was worth it. when drakengard 3 music is not fast I like it more than when it is fast especially at the parts that are fast in the slow songs like this one. All the echoy percussion in the background around ~3:00 is great, and I like how much the string layers in this feels like it would be music to some movie that I like that is animated and "magical". I think one of the strengths of drakengard 3 music (and nier) is all the metallic clanking sounds it explores. It's not like the jarring stabbing-you-with-a-knife form that can take like g-darius (even though I specifically like that about it). cases like this or like, the wretched automatons, it's just really...pretty! throwing scrap metal into an echoy grey dungeon chamber starts to feel like a beautiful Prismatic Prison (Sonic Shuffle OST), once dismal faint light beams come in vibrantly and turn into rainbows (I love pretentious) in the stained glass landscape (why is this piece of music so "colorful" feeling to me even though it is called "the black song" wtf song title)

Memories of You (5/10) I probably would've easily voted for this over drakengard 3 the black song years ago but it is not that time right now. The piano layers and filtered percussion effects are neat. um, what else is there in the song that i care about though (nothing) oops. I have really little to say here that's positive or negative i guess that's the definition of a 5 "i don't care", I think i might care about this a bit more if the instrumentation were different, but with just guitar and drums there's just not enough in the background to compliment anything on the foreground, and i'm not fascinated enough by the vocals to find interest in them either, though I do like them rhythmically. The most positive thing I have to say here is that I think it's cool how much this extrapolates out of a very simple motif, just 2 repeated notes and a space and two more repeated notes. that tiny thing has a bunch done with it throughout and it never really feels repetitive to me even though it IS literally repetitive .
