As technology advances, there will be new ways to fight war. Space is already home to spy satellites, how long until it's filled with armed weapons platforms that could rain down destruction on anyone they wished? The future is space, and while we don't need space defense right NOW, we certainly will in the not so distant future. Security will be about more than defending our skies and land; we'll have to secure and defend the atmosphere and outer reaches of the planet as well. This.
