Canada is different then the US of course, but here, you can save up even doing a part time job, although it depends where you are (as some places still have a really low min wage).

Anywhere with a $15 an hour min wage (more places then you would think), though, and you could pretty much get a new comp in 2 months working 3 days a week (24 hours a week).

Taxes are pretty much non-existant at that rate (15*24=360 a week or $1440 a month).

After taxes (less then 10%) you still net $1300 take home.

Must rent a room ($500 is a good medium cost here, it's available everywhere (Even hawaii and Brooklyn/Cali...just REALLY good deals there).

Avoid massive expenses and eat for $50 a week. Aim for a total cost per month of $800.

That leaves $500 in savings per months......you can get a new computer in 2 months that way (and if you have a credit card of any type, get it right away and pay it off in 2 months).

MEanwhile if you really want a good computer (especially gaming laptop) look at buying used. My current laptop runs everything, has a 4g GPU and 16G ram, it's an Omen that was originally $1200 (Got it on sale a few years ago for $900. It currently is sold used for $400 and it's future proof still for games for a few years.

People want to upgrade to the newest stuff, also my comp doesn't work with occulus etc (even though it advertised as VR compatible, it wasn't).

That makes people want to sell it....and get something else...so it's a fairly cheap option if you just want a decent portable gaming machine. I play all the new games with no problem at all (most recently the outer worlds at max settings).

Not sure how thigns work in Canada or how uch you make at your job etc, but most people are wasting a TON of money on things that are not really that important. Even if you rent a room, if you look around and don't rush it, you can get privacy, your own bathroom...and if your lucky like me an entire basement/downstairs to yourself (same as your own apartment) but for a fraction of a price.

Renting your own apartment here (1 bedroom or even studio) is at least $1k (studio maybe 900)....I'm renting my basement (living room that I use as a huge bedroom + bedroom + bathroom + fridge area) for $575. I bought an intant pot, and had a microwave/tea maker/toaster etc down here already.....so I don't even have to use the kitchen upstairs.

If you take your time and look for something like that, you can cut your expenses down significantly, without sacrificing much at all. That allows you to live on a min wage/part time job easily. What is more, you can spend time looking for a BETTER part time job (at least that tips on top of min wage), and then really start saving money.
