But one of the first thoughts I ever had when I saw the pig from Babe was "Man, that would make a delicious sandwich." I've also literally raised chickens and geese from almost birth to eventually eat them. Named them, hand-fed them, petted them, etc. So sentiment really isn't going to stop me from eating anything.
