Sure, you can order a $120 6" foam mattress-in-a-box or stop at your local Goodwill to pick up a mattress for about $150, but you get what you pay for. A reasonably good mattress is usually going to run you around $1800 at least. There are some decent-quality memory foams out there that you can get for less than $1500, but when you start to look at quality, you're going to be paying around $3k. And $3k isn't even the really expensive stuff.
