So much wrong, not even sure where to start... Overlooking that you somehow blame GM for killing towns while simultaneously refusing to credit them for building those towns up, it's not GM's responsibility to maintain the welfare of a town

What they do.

Their cars aren't selling so they're closing down some places. Supposedly it's a matter of cars declining in popularity vs SUVs, etc.

People need to stop trying to look for a person to blame and understand that this is the price of automation, theres no stopping it, and this isnt even the tip of the iceberg yet.

Lots of jobs are going away and society and the economy are gonna have to completely restructure to accommodate the fact.

afaik this doesn't have to do with automation, it's a matter of discontinuing some of their less profitable offerings and shutting down unprofitable facilities.

Several months ago, a car dealership flooded and several dozens of cars were swept away. It occurred to me how wasteful it is to have thousands of dealerships displaying hundreds of new/used cars that nobody is buying.

...you understand how car sales works, right? You need to have vehicles on the lot.
