Sure, it's certainly better than nothing and I'm happy to have the two that I do. However, I live in a pretty water-sparse biome so, prior to the series of Magikarp-friendly promos (Kanto, Earth Day, Water, etc), I had pretty much walked for nearly all of my Magikarp candy (probably 550k distance total -- some of which was during buddy events which gave me some extra candy -- with 353k distance logged on the 89% Magikarp that eventually became my first Gyarados). And, because of that, I can't bring myself to evolve either Magikarp when what I had really wanted all along was a usable red Gyarados.

At this point, I figure I might as well just wait evo'ing a shiny on the off-chance I find a nicer one down the road. All that aside, shiny Magikarp itself looks pretty awesome and I'd love to use it as a gimmick gym defender, particularly in a gold-themed gym (ie, shiny Sableye, shiny Poochyena/Mightyena, shiny Swablu/Alteria, etc)
