Probably best to do it in the form of a gained tap ability in that case. Target creature gains "Whenever a punch counter is TAP: Fight target creature an opponent controls without a punch counter on it. Thrn place a punch counter on the target creature and untap both creatures if they haven't received lethal damage." until end of turn. At the end of the turn remove all punch counters from all creatures. Which is possibly just as clunky so yeah I dunno.
