I can't figure out how to make it care about the creature having to die in order to do more punches without adding something like the Anger of the Gods rider (if a creature an opponent controls dealt damage this way dies this turn), but that would lead to some weird shit.

Well you guys are all making the card slightly stronger than it was as printed since you can choose to stop fighting, which I think might actually make it too good for its cost.

I think the most true to effect would be something like

Bunch of Punches (uncommon)
Sorcery
1RG
Target creature you control fights target creature an opponent controls.

Swan Song (As you cast this spell, put a copy of it targeting your creature for each distinct secondary target or choice on this spell. If your creature dies this turn, exile all of these copies.)

That may not be the most clean way for it to work but I think it's closest to the intended effect without having weird wording-- though the exiling copies mechanic is probably "too complicated" I think it reads better. Personally if I were to make it, since I like my Swan Song mechanic but that doesn't quite fit my vision, I'd probably do something like this:

Bunch of Punches (Rare)
Sorcery
1RG
Target creature you control loses indestructible until end of turn and fights a random creature an opponent controls. If no creatures received damage as a result of this spell, exert the creatures instead.

Swan Song (After this spell resolves, copy it targeting the same creature. Repeat this process until the creature dies or is exerted.)

Which again isn't necessarily the cleanest thing and I'm not sure you were able to use "exert" as per the design challenge rules but I think it's potentially a cool mechanic. Then again if I made this mechanic I probably wouldn't do it with this card to begin with, but you know.

Imo it's actually pretty op then in addition to being kinda awkward to read. Probably best to do it in the form of a gained tap ability in that case.

Target creature gains "Whenever a punch counter is TAP: Fight target creature an opponent controls without a punch counter on it. Thrn place a punch counter on the target creature and untap both creatures if they haven't received lethal damage." until end of turn.

At the end of the turn remove all punch counters from all creatures.

Which is possibly just as clunky so yeah I dunno. I almost feel like this card alone would get you dumpstered harder than using Storm.

Argh phone typing mangled that last one. Remove the punch counter bit before TAP but yeah. Point is I think the fact that it's so hard to concisely phrase this into a card effect makes it an auto-nono.

Masters 25 previews start on Monday, and then it's just a few weeks until Dominaria stuff starts. Can't wait for that.

Also, they released the decklists for these "challenger" deck supplemental products they're doing now.

I'm probably too tired to do FNM today but there's a big Modern tournament in my area this weekend I'm thinking about going to. It's even for charity, so at least I'd be scrubbing out for a good cause!

Nah, it's the Hunter Burton Memorial in North Texas. It's cool that there's multiple charity tournaments though! Outside of Extra Life events I wasn't really aware it was a thing.

The one happening today is because a local player was diagnosed with leukemia, so one of our local pros started organizing a charity event for the leukemia and lymphoma foundation.

Did a flashback Theros block draft on MTGO today. I only went 2-1, but I did get to draft one of the strongest archetypes in the format: Gorgon tribal. Had Hythonia, 2 Keepsake Gorgons, and a Pharika's Mender. Deck had some gas.

Gisela's a bit of a whiff, Akroma (with inferior art) is a big whiff. Thalia's a good reprint. Chalice is too, but the rarity upshift is gross. There's no reason for that to be mythic.

I was totally wiped last night after playing all 10 rounds of Magic, but I went 7-3 at that charity IQ. Wasn't enough to cash out (and I could have except for one misplay...), but I placed top 64 and got 4 IMA, 5 RIX,1 UN3 packs. I faced 10 different decks across the rounds so it's good to see Modern still pretty diverse so far.

Spoilers seem pretty par for the course aside from the upshifts. Feels good to have called the Thalia reprint and I'll probably buy into Humans over the next few months now. And Cursecatcher is a fantastic reprint for my fiance who is putting the finishing touches on Merfolk!

Modern Masters 1 was a pretty fun draft format. As far as the masters draft formats go, I think I got Eternal > Modern 1 > Modern 3 > Modern 2. I never did get a chance to try Iconic.

So far 25th looks like kind of a mess draft-wise, but we'll see once we get more of the commons and uncommons.

My favorite card is probably False Cure cause it's so silly but actually effective with all the weird life gain cards out there.

That or Akroma Angel of Wrath but with her it's more I just love the character concept than the actual card I think. I mean she isn't a bad creature by any means and she is the type of creature I build around but she is a bit outclassed these days :(
