Rogue One and Ep7 both commit the same sin, which is that they don't bother to fucking do anything for the first chunk of the movie. For TFA it's about 30 minutes. For Rogue One, it's the entire first act until you see a hologram pop up. Straight up, I think if you watch Rogue One you should fastforward until you see a hologram, then stop, rewind back a tiny bit and watch the movie and it'd come out much stronger for it. --- On the topic of lightsaber fights, BTW: I really didn't like a lot of stuff about TFA, but I'll say that I really enjoyed the lightsaber duel even with Rey's second wind being total bullshit. It felt...strong. Weighty, if that makes any sense? They took advantage of the inexperience of the combatants on all sides to create something that was powerful and deliberate in terms of choreography and I liked it a lot. --- Shine on, you crazy diamond. ...
