Topic | What's the most recent game to have aged/feel "old"? |
FoolFantastic 09/12/23 10:31:08 AM #12: | I do think Gears of War 1 is a great answer. It very much felt boundary pushing at the time but the presentation is so emblematic of the mid-2000s that it feels like an artifact, and the cover-based shooting feels especially simplistic these days.
I don't think any of the very recent examples work because the games they are imitating do not feel particularly old. Why bother with FFXVI or Starfield when Devil May Cry 3 and Kingdom Hearts 2 or Skyrim and Fallout: New Vegas still exist and do the same general things better? I don't think the lack of innovation makes something feel old, just underwhelming. --- My top 100 games (with write-ups): https://foolfantastic.com/top-100-video-games-project/ Top 250 songs: https://foolfantastic.com/3290-2/ ...
