Depends on the sauce. If it's something that whips together in 5 minutes, freezing it in bulk doesn't make much sense. If it's a sauce you make by simmering things down for a couple hours and pureeing them, freezing a litre or two (in ~1-cup portions) can potentially save you quite a bit of time over making a new batch every time you run out.

The way I see it, if it's food you know you will eat in the foreseeable future and freezing it will save you time, money, or both, it's a worthwhile use of freezer space. Whether or not it's more worthwhile than the other things in your freezer will, of course, be a personal judgement call based on what you want to keep and how much space you have, but I wouldn't say this is automatically going to be a waste.
