I've always found hating a fictional character to be sort of ridiculous. If a character is well written, or even just well performed in a coherent fashion, I generally will like the character even if they are an absolute skunk (after all, it's better to be a skunk in fiction than a skunk in reality - bad guys make real life awful, and they can make fiction really fun). And Diane certainly isn't a skunk. She's a complex character, with a lot of flaws and some virtues in the end, and that's just where good entertainment comes from.
