If it's the latter, you can start looking for a job - and get hired - before you submit your resignation. People do this all the time. Just tell your new employer that your start date will have to begin in a couple weeks. They'll understand, and more than likely appreciate your showing your former employer some courtesy in giving a proper notice. If you're under contract, start looking for a new job. Shoot for having a new job once your contract runs out. Again, not slavery.
