The problem if you make Daylight Savings Time permanent is we end up with sunrise at almost 9 am in winter. On the other hand, if you got rid of DST, you'd have sunrise at 4 am in the summer. It's a no-win situation.

I'd generally prefer dawn to come earlier in summer rather than later in winter, mainly because winter is already a cold dark miserable time when depression is soaring, so getting up early to go to work in total darkness sucks more than dawn just coming really early in summer.

I might feel differently if I lived somewhere where roosters were crowing at dawn, or where it's so hot that it would mean the day would already be unbearably hot by like 8am, but I don't.
