He immediately knew he shouldn't have said it, switched to an actual generic insult ("Asshole"), and tried to downplay it.

He 100% knows not to say it and your theory is flawed.

I think you missed the point of my story.

I am okay with the word gay
I am not okay with the word ******

I've let the former slip once in a great while in contexts where it's poor form when being around people who use it that way, because the word is something I have no issue using. Gay is gay. There's nothing wrong with that. The latter has never come out of my mouth, not ever.

I'd assume pewdiepie simply doesn't have any legitimate feeling of revulsion towards the n-word-- he has to "fake it" because he didn't grow up in a culture where it mattered or where the significance of it mattering was hammered into his head, and has these 14 year olds around him saying it all the time. This doesn't make him a racist, it just makes him someone who didn't grow up in a culture where the word mattered in any meaningful way, corrupted by 14 year olds before he had any intimate feeling that the word was something that shouldn't be said.

It basically comes down to association. He hears the word, he thinks "stupid 14 year old" not "stupid racist 14 year old." That doesn't mean he's racist, that just means he was exposed to it on a large scale through stupid 14 year olds before he really absorbed the impact of the word.

Keep in mind I'm not really trying to defend pewdiepie as anything but "not necessarily a racist." I think the guy is awful but yeah.
