The Gawker case is a bit of an oddity, because Gawker got kinda screwed in that case (although they probably screwed themselves more). Basically, they probably would have won the case with some more meaningful evidence, what it was escapes me (but I think it was an indictment that Hogan was actually profiting from the fallout of the case and continued to act like he didn't care until the trial happened). But what ended up happening was that they tied up the release of that evidence in paperwork. And even worse, their attorneys were super bad and the law firm that defended Gawker was actually bought out by the legal firm I work for immediately after that case ended. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't appeal, because I probably would've been doing some work with the case then!
