You still slaughter them for leather, gelatin, bone meal, certain types of insulin, etc, so you're still losing a ton of things from that alone.

In addition, people who are actually concerned about "treatment before the slaughter" are probably also going to be worried about "treatment before you harvest milk, eggs, etc" for exactly the same reasons. It's still inhumane regardless.

If anything, it might be more inhumane, if only because animals raised for slaughter are usually kept in somewhat acceptable condition (they need to be to keep the meat usable) and then killed in relatively short order, whereas animals being harvested are usually kept in far worse conditions (because it doesn't matter as long as they keep producing milk or eggs), effectively violated on a regular basis for their entire lives, and then, once past a useful age, get killed off and used for lesser products.
