Under a rational ranking, some songs will gain or lose points based on the quality of the upload. One could alter the outcome by tracking down the highest quality upload. Or lowest, if you're trying to sabotage the result for whatever reason.


Under an irrational ranking, some songs will gain or lose points based on the popularity of that particular video. One could alter the outcome by tracking down the most popular video. Or least viewed, if you wanted to sabotage it.


So, yes, I agree it skews the results based on the exact video that was used. I just figure that is something that happens under sane rankings anyway.

And I agree it was a highly flawed category that shouldn't have been used. For better or worse, it definitely limited my opinions (my personal favorite song wound up at... I think 38th on my list since no one else likes it?), which...kinda...defeats the point... and it's only tangently related to the songs. I don't disagree with your conclusion, just the rationale that led to it.

I came close to doing the entire list over, but Se7en approved things knowing how it might turn out and I wanted to save my energy for a hypothetical future ranking topic. Suffice it to say the last two categories probably wouldn't be used again, but here we are. In a topic without Time Man, Mega Man Shop, or coherent ranking systems. Truly, the darkest ranking topic.

The joke is that irrational nonsense makes the ranking system far more 'me' than if I just gave a normal ranking. Well, not so much a joke, but... I am exactly the type of person that would have done this. And it amused me because I had little idea how things would end up. There were more surprises with my list than a normal one, which was kinda fun. It was an interesting experiment, at least from my perspective.
